VET Review

The independent review of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector is now open for public written submissions from all individuals and organisations.

The Review will focus on how the Australian Government’s investment in VET could be more effective to provide Australians with the skills they need to be successful throughout their working life.

It will also focus on ensuring Australian businesses, including small and family businesses and businesses in rural and regional areas, have the skills they need to support their business growth.

The Review was announced 28 November 2018 by the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, and Senator; the Hon Michaelia Cash, Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education.

The review asks 4 key questions via the online submission portal.
  • What is working well in the VET sector?
  • What are the key challenges in the VET sector?
  • What changes would you make to the VET sector?
  • How can VET help Australians prepare for the future workforce (as industry requirements and job patterns change)?
For further information on the Review, including the Terms of Reference and information about the submissions process, please visit the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

AEN will be preparing a draft submission for members to review by mid January 2019 and applications will close on Friday 25 January 2019.

NCVER Update

New Reports

VET students satisfied with training, job prospects remain high

New data from over 200,000 vocational education and training (VET) students shows that satisfaction remains high, with 86.8% of graduates and 90.4% of subject completers satisfied with the overall quality of their training.

The annual National Student Outcomes Survey managed by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), is Australia’s largest survey of VET students and provides information on employment outcomes and training satisfaction for students who completed training at TAFE institutes, universities, community education providers, and private training providers.

Where enough survey responses are received, RTOs can receive an individual summary of their students’ employment outcomes and satisfaction with training.

To be eligible for a report, your RTO must have had at least 100 domestic graduates and/or 860 domestic subject completers in 2017.

Unaccredited training: why employers use it and does it meet their needs?
This report examines the extent of unaccredited training in Australia and explores why employers use it, how satisfied they are with it, and the benefits they see in using it.

Standard RTO Enrolment Form Updates for 2019

A reminder that the 2019 Standard Enrolment Form is now available on NCVER’s Portal.

The sample form has been updated to incorporate a new study reason classification. The new classification for Study reason applies from 1 January 2019, and so cannot be reported in your 2018 data.

There have also been some minor editorial changes around USI information.

The full reports and more information about the survey is available from the NCVER.
