Skilling Australia Fund - 5 State & Territories Have Signed Up
|
Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews said the signing of a National Partnership Agreement with a number of State and Territory governments late last week is a significant step for the vocational education and skills sector in Australia.
|
An estimated $1.5 billion will be provided through the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) in vocational education and training (VET) programs Australia-wide, with the aim of creating an additional 300,000 apprenticeships and traineeships.
|
The SAF agreements in SA, NSW, ACT, NT and Tasmania means the States and Territories will match federal investment to boost VET and growth in apprenticeship numbers.

Intowork Australia – Alan Brown Awarded AM
|
|
|
Over the Queen’s birthday weekend Chairman of Intowork Australia Hon. Alan Brown was awarded with a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for over 50 years of service to the community.
|
|
Mr Brown has a passion for creating lifelong pathways for young people through apprenticeships and has served as chairman to Inner Northern Group Training Ltd trading as Intowork Australia since 2001, he is also Chairman of AGA and Deputy Chairman of MAS National.
|
|
|
|
Alan was also instrumental in establishing the Inner North Community Foundation which has distributed over $2.6 million in grants to over 130 community organisations within the Darebin, Moreland and Yarra municipalities.
|
In addition to his community work, Alan served as Member of the Victorian Parliament, Parliamentary leader of the Victorian Liberal Party, Minister for transport and many other roles.
|

ACNC and Consumer Affairs Victoria Agreement
|
It was announced last week that the Victorian Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation Marlene Kairouz, had officially signed the exemption order that will reduce red tape for incorporated associations.
The move means from 1 July, incorporated associations that are also charities registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) will no longer need to lodge an annual statement with Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) or pay an annual statement lodgement fee to CAV.
ACNC commissioner Dr Gary Johns said he welcomed the announcement and thanked the Victorian government for their commitment to reducing red tape for charities.
“The reduction of red tape for registered charities is one of the three key objectives of the ACNC,” Johns said.
“We are very pleased to be able to announce this red tape reduction initiative today, as it will benefit thousands of charities in Victoria who are out there doing good work in the community.
The charities affected will continue to submit their ACNC Annual Information Statement each year, and the ACNC will share the relevant data with CAV on the charity’s behalf.

Apprentice Employment Network NSW/ACT Conference
|
|
On Thursday this week the NSW & ACT Apprentice Employment Network held its annual conference in Sydney.
|
The keynote address by Assistant Minister Karen Andrews highlighted the recent signing by five states and territories to the Skilling Australian Fund, with NSW and ACT being two of the five.
|
There were a number of topics discussed over the event focussing on the topic – "Vet for the Future".

Young Australians Finding it Difficult to Find Full-Time Work – New Work Order Report
|
|
The New Work Reality report, published this week by The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA), is a longitudinal report which follows the journeys of 14,000 young people over a decade.
|
|
The report highlights that young Australians increasingly faced a number of significant barriers when seeking full time jobs, with only 26 per cent of 15 to 24 year olds in full-time work, compared to 53 per cent in 1980.
|
|
|
The report stressed that young Australians lacked confidence about their working futures.
|
Three quarters of young Australians did not believe they had the relevant vocational and practical work experience that the job market called for, while seven out of 10 believed there was insufficient job availability.
|
How young people create a full-time workload has also changed, with the number of young people working full-time hours in casual jobs doubling since 1992.
|
