On 29 October, Australia ratified the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Fundamental Convention – Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention 187 at a tripartite ceremony of unions, employers and governments in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ceremony included representatives from Safe Work Australia Members, the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The ratification of this Convention affirms Australia’s role as a world leader in work health and safety, as one of the first in the world to ratify all 10 ILO Fundamental Conventions which together recognise workplace health and safety as a fundamental principle and right.
The ILO’s Conventions, and Australia’s ratification of them, aligns with recent work to ensure the health and safety of all workers, including initiatives under the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023-2033, new guidance and regulations for psychosocial hazards, including sexual and gender-based harassment, and the ban on engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs.

Victorian & Commonwealth Government Annual Reports
Last week, the Victorian Government released several Annual Reports from various departments and programs for the 2023-24 year.
The Annual Reports outline work and achievements along with information about their performance, financial statements and other disclosures.
The 2023-24 Annual Reports were tabled in Parliament on Thursday 31 October 2024.
The four key themes represent areas where rapid developments are occurring, with new job titles and evolving skill requirements.
- Net Zero
- Health, Care and Medical
- Data and Technologies
- Science and Engineering
The report also includes a deep dive analysis on Artificial Intelligence.
While new applications for AI are emerging every day, and it has the potential to revolutionise industries, streamline tasks and create new opportunities; evidence from current Australian internet job advertisement data suggests the take up of AI to date is modest and concentrated in particular industries and occupations.

Jobs and Skills Australia recently released their interim report - Towards a Regional, Rural and Remote Jobs and Skills Roadmap - that focuses on the workforce and skills needs of regional, rural and remote Australia.
- identify the drivers and pressures on regional labour markets
- assess the current performance of the regional skills system
- identify changes to the regional skills system resulting from current reform processes and their likely impact; and
- identify the residual challenges and explore potential remedies for discussion with key stakeholder and policy makers.

Becoming Change Agile to Master Uncertainty
It can be tough dealing with the pace of change and the uncertainty that goes with it. However, it is important for leaders to learn how to embrace, navigate, and lead through change effectively. And the more change agile we are, the better prepared we are to respond when things move fast.
This session introduces you to the ADKAR change management model and explores different leadership techniques to lead yourself and your team through challenging times with purpose and poise.
