|

As part of the presentation made by the Victorian Skills Commissioner Mr Neil Coulson – VSC office made a special presentation to 5 group training apprentices that recently completed their training and were eligible for their official trade papers.

A trade paper is a certificate that commemorates the completion of an apprenticeship.
|
You can apply for a free trade paper if you completed both:
|
- a recognised apprenticeship in Victoria, which you started after 1 January 1995
- the apprenticeship's relevant qualification with a TAFE, trade school or registered training organisation.
When you apply, you'll need to provide your qualification title and code. Your TAFE, trade school or registered training organisation can provide you with this information.
|
To apply for a trade paper, register an account and submit an application in the trade paper portal, which is provided by VETASSESS.
|

Labour Announce Their Shadow Ministry
|
Earlier this week the federal labour opposition government announced that Tanya Plibersek was reappointed as Shadow Minister for Education and Training.
|

MEGT Announce the Appointment of Bridie Gildea as New CEO
|
|
After 27 years with the company, MEGT’s current CEO and Executive Director, David Windridge will commence long service leave effective Monday 3 June 2019. He will continue in his role as CEO while on leave, with Bridie taking on the role of CEO (Acting) during this period.
|
Bridie will then officially transition to the role of MEGT CEO following David’s retirement on 3 January 2020.
|
|
AEN congratulate Bridie on her new appointment and we look forward to working with her and the team at MEGT.

Fairwork Commission – Annual Wage Review
|
|
Last week the Fair Work Commission handed down its annual wage review decision. The minimum wage and award wages will be adjusted by 3%.
|
The increase will be effective from the start of the first pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2019.
|

World Youth Skills Day- 15 July
|
|

Launched by UNDP Bangladesh and its partners in 2016, the YES project aimed to increase Youth Employment through Skills in the country. World Bank/Scott Wallace.

Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults and continuously exposed to lower quality of jobs, greater labor market inequalities, and longer and more insecure school-to-work transitions.
|
In addition, women are more likely to be underemployed and under-paid, and to undertake part-time jobs or work under temporary contracts.
|
That is why education and training are key determinants of success in the labor market. But unfortunately, existing systems are failing to address the learning needs of many young people, and surveys of learning outcomes and skills show that a large number of youth have low levels of achievement in basic literacy and numeracy.
|
To raise awareness on the importance of investing in youth skills development, the United Nations General Assembly decided to designate 15 July as World Youth Skills Day.
|

National Group Training Conference – 31 July – 2 August Gold Coast
|
|
The National Apprentice Employment Network’s national conference, “Beyond 2020”. This will be held on the Gold Coast, from 31 July to 2 Aug at the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise.
|
The conference is focussed on practical themes to support Group Training Organisations across Australia, and to also engage industry stakeholders who are invested in improving employment opportunities and outcomes for future apprentices and trainees.
|
The “Beyond 2020” theme responds to shifts in federal government policies, a stronger political spotlight on employment through apprenticeships and traineeships, and the VET system under review.
|
Members of AEN in Victoria can access the benefits of NAEN members’ registration, including a reduced registration rate and an invitation to register for our members only luncheon.
|
The members only luncheon will be held on July 31 from 1pm at Kurrawa Surf Club. Members will have join in facilitated engagement with Stephen Koukoulas, Economist (keynote speaker Aug 1), and a Branch Head from the Department of Employment, Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business.
|
AEN Executive Officers will also provide a “State of the States” update and members will have the opportunity to participate in Q&A.

What to do, once you've signed up
|
The first thing to know is that there is no plastic card issued for a Bunning’s Power Pass member. Your membership is always with you, as the ID card lives on your phone.
|
- After you've filled in the application and it’s been processed you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address, so it’s imperative that we get your email address right.
- After we have verified your email address, you will receive a new email with your CARD NUMBER and a link to download the Bunnings PowerPass App for your phone.
4. Load the App, enter your card number and you’re good to go.

NCVER Update
|
The latest NCVER national apprentice and trainee data show there were 33 760 trade and non-trade commencements in the December 2018 quarter, down 4.2% compared with the same quarter in 2017.
|
Trade commencements decreased by 9.2% in the December 2018 quarter, with the main decreases seen in construction trades workers (down 18.2%) and other technicians and trades workers (down 17.4%).
|
Overall there were 259 385 apprentices and trainees in-training as at 31 December 2018, a decrease of 1.0% from 31 December 2017.
|
