At this event, guests will hear from Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships, Hon Steve Irons MP and former member for the Australian Labour Party, Hon Jenny Macklin MP on the current and future directions of VET and apprenticeships in Australia. Come and join in the conversation on how Apprenticeships and Traineeships are being utilised as a solution to youth unemployment as well as meeting future employer workforce needs.

Apprenticeship Employment Network
Gary assumed the role in 2009 and leads AEN and its members on public policy and research activities, including overseeing relationships with a wide range of industry and government stakeholders.
Gary brings over 20 years experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, and has worked on numerous government and industry projects including the areas of workforce development, apprenticeships, OH&S and the environment.
He is a member of the Victorian Governments Apprenticeship Taskforce through the Victorian Skills Commission Office since 2016.
Gary is also an ambassador for the Bullyzero Australia Foundation which supports the awareness of workplace bullying and mental health issues.

Hon Jenny Macklin MP
Former Member for Jagajaga
Jenny Macklin was elected to the House of Representatives for Jagajaga, Victoria, 1996. Re-elected 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. Jenny was the longest serving woman in the House of Representatives, and was the first woman to become the Deputy Leader of a major Australian political party. Retired at the expiration of term, 2019.
She held the position of Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs from 2007 to 2011, was a Cabinet Minister from 2007 to 2013. Jenny was also Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs from 2011 to 2013 and Minister for Disability Reform from 2011 to 2013.

Assistance Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships
Steve was elected to the House of Representatives for Swan, Western Australia, 2007. Re-elected 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019. He was Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister from 2018 to 2019 and has been the Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships since 2019.
Before entering Federal Parliament, Steve had worked as a company director, road operator and as an apprentice electrician.
