This workshop aims to build GTO and employer confidence in working with disabled apprentices by providing information and practical tips to manage those tricky conversations.

Target audience: 

Managers, field officers and staff with recruitment and mentoring responsibilities of apprentices/trainees with a disability.

About the facilitators:

Amii Demanuele and Brighdie O’Dwyer are National Disability Coordination Officers (NDCO) from Inner Melbourne VET Cluster (IMVC).  IMVC is a progressive not-for-profit organisation that has been providing vocational education and training programs, and employment services for young people experiencing disadvantage for over 20 years. 

Brighdie has developed an extensive skill set within the community services sector.  As a social worker, she has worked with the homeless, people suffering substance abuse, people exiting criminal justice system, young people and, for a number of years now, people with disability.  Through her current role, she advocates to address barriers faced by people with disability accessing education.  Through her ongoing practice, Brighdie enhances opportunities for people with disability to access, participate and achieve their goals in education and employment. 

Amii has worked in the disability sector for 8 years. Originally designing training and assessment programs for people with intellectual disabilities and their support workers in supported employment. Amii believes in the power of education and meaningful employment and work towards reducing the barriers that restrict access to these basic human rights.
