2019 Inspiration Award – Indigenous Student of the Year Winner: Kayleigh Gallagher

Kayleigh is working for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) completing Certificate III in Business. She was drawn to work for the DELWP as was a good fit for her because of the partnership with Traditional Owners and the introduction of the Aboriginal Inclusion Plan as well as exploring new ways that this could evolve in the future.

Of her own initiative, Kayleigh arranged to job shadowing the highest ranked indigenous Public Servant in Victoria – Deputy Secretary Terry Garwood. Kayleigh has regularly reached out to volunteer and actively participate in a number of cultural events. She attended and volunteered at a regional Traditional Land Conference.

Kayleigh was heavily involved in volunteering for Reconciliation Action Week, which included speaking on the panel of an government staff forum with over 300 people present, talking about her experience as a young Indigenous person in the workforce.
