2020 Inspiration Award: Overcoming Adversity Winner: Jack Meehan

Jack has wanted to become a builder his whole life and was determined to land an apprenticeship. Leaving school after Year 10, he found an apprenticeship in carpentry since he enjoyed woodwork in school. Unfortunately, Jack missed out on the opportunity to learn alongside a qualified builder as his employer was not readily available to guide an apprentice, leading to Jack being unable to gain many valuable skills within the trade.

During the third year of this apprenticeship, Jack was informed there was no work for him and as a result, found himself in the position of being unable to contact his employer to discuss options for the future.

Kestrel provided Jack with some hope, finding him some building work expected to last four weeks, which then led to a full-time apprenticeship. Jack believes you should never give up until you achieve your goals.
