Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has seen a sharp reduction in apprenticeship and traineeship employment. The Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program has been created in response to this challenge. The program aims to assist apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment complete their training.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) has commissioned Apprenticeship Employment Network (AEN) Victoria, the peak body for group training employers, to develop and administer the program.

For Individuals

Apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment are encouraged to register below.

Once on the register, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) or directly with an employer.

Program officers will also help direct you to the most appropriate advice and assistance while you remain out of employment.

For Employers

Employers who have job vacancies for apprentices or trainees can submit them below.

Our program officers will match your vacancy with suitable candidates for you to interview.

Employers may also be eligible for Australian Government incentives.

Advice on incentive programs is available from Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers.

All information submitted will be treated in accordance with the AEN Privacy Policy.

The National Apprenticeship Employment Network (NAEN) working with the Australian Government, has established a national register for apprentices and trainees who have lost their jobs with small business employers.

NAEN is collaborating with AEN Victoria so that Victorian apprentices and trainees who register on either the Victorian or the national site will be assisted by AEN Victoria program staff and have access to all relevant Victorian job opportunities on the national and the Victorian sites. Similarly, Victorian employers who register on either the national or Victorian sites will have access to all the eligible Victorian candidates from both registers.

If you are a retrenched apprentice, trainee or an employer looking for an apprentice or trainee and are located in another state you may register on the NAEN Register.
