Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program
|
|
|
|
|
Now into its 5th month, the Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program has received almost 580 registrations from apprentices and trainees who have been affected by the current economic crisis. 64 registrants have now been successfully re-employed.
|

- Automotive and Boating

- Electrical Trades
- Plumbing and Roofing
- Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinetmaking
First year apprentices make up over 45 percent of those seeking assistance and while regional Victoria has been affected slightly, the vast majority of participants are located in the Metro Melbourne area.
|
We have also seen employer confidence in the economy boost with more job vacancies being listed on last month. The register has had almost 1040 job vacancies listed.
|
The program aims to assist apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment complete their training.
|
|
Apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment are encouraged to register.
|
Once on the register, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) or directly with an employer.
|
Program officers will also help direct you to the most appropriate advice and assistance while you remain out of employment.
|
|
Employers who have job vacancies for apprentices or trainees can submit them on the vacancy register.
|
Our program officers will match your vacancy with suitable candidates for you to interview.
|
Employers may also be eligible for Australian Government incentives.
|
|

The AEN Industry Award Nominations opened on the 24 August. The awards celebrate the dedication and achievements of apprentices and trainees, group training organisations and businesses committed to the development of apprentices and trainees.

Participate in AATIS Digital Information Sessions
|
The Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service (AATIS) have launched their nationwide digital information sessions which are going to be held as interactive workshops. They are divided into two workshops – a breakfast session on ‘What employers want to know about Australian Apprenticeships’ and a mid-morning session on ‘An overview of AATIS resources.
|
Join them live with your coffees for the breakfast session where they will launch the preliminary results of their research around the most important information that employers need when taking on an apprentice or trainee. This session is a must-attend for anyone working directly with employers, including staff from AASNs, GTOs, RTOs, employment services, and schools.
|
The second mid-morning session would be an official launch of the first series of AATIS videos, showcasing some of the widely used AATIS resources and how to access/use them. This session is meant for anyone new to the apprenticeships sector or anyone looking for free resources about Australian Apprenticeships including staff from AASNs, GTOs, RTOs, government departments, employment services providers, and careers advisers and school staff.

Since these are interactive workshops, there are limited seats available, and anyone interested is encouraged to sign-up to ensure their spot.

Victorian Training Awards - Virtual Award Presentations
|
|
On 25 August 2020, Gayle Tierney, Minister for Training and Skills, Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education, announced the finalists for the 2020 Victorian Training Awards.
|
Now in their 66th year, the prestigious Victorian Training Awards foster connections and collaboration, bringing together students, teachers, training providers, employers and industry representatives, sharing in a high-quality training system that meets the needs of all Victorians.
|
This year, the Victorian Training Awards is going online!
|
|
Instead of a physical gala, the Victorian Training Awards’ finalists and winners will be announced via a series of videos published from Monday 26 October on the Victorian Training Awards Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.

Each of the above listed videos will give viewers an opportunity to learn about the awards, meet the finalists and importantly, find out the winner in each specific category.
Additionally, there will be three short ‘Training Talks’ videos which will feature an interview between this year’s MC Tracy Curro and The Hon. Gayle Tierney MP, Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education.
These videos will talk about the awards and Victoria’s VET sector and offer some reflections on some of the challenges of successes of the past year.

VRQA Consultation on Proposed Group Training Organisation Policy
|
The proposed revisions are intended to improve guidance and reduce regulatory burden for GTOs. The revisions include:
|
- additional clarity around our approach to GTO recognition
- reduced frequency of cyclical audits to once every five years as part of re-recognition
- clearly stated consequences of non-compliance with the National Standards for GTOs
- acknowledgement of the Apprentice Employment Network and its role.

Orygen Apprentice Mental Health Survey
|
|
|
Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health are developing a report on the mental health of apprentices and are conducting a survey to hear the thoughts of Australian apprentices on their experiences with mental health during their apprenticeship.
Orygen is the leading research, training and clinical service provider in Australia focused on the mental health of young people.
The results of this survey will help to promote mental health supports which are optimised to meet the needs of apprentices.
We encourage all apprentices to take the survey that should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Responses are anonymous and will go a long way in helping to develop quality and tailored mental health services for apprentices.
The survey will be open until Monday 2 November 2020.

October is Safety Awareness Month
|
|
WorkSafe Victoria’s Health and Safety Month is going virtual this October with a special online program to answer your coronavirus questions.
|
Health and Safety Month ‘Navigating through COVID-19’ will run from 6 October to 27 October 2020.
|
With more than a dozen free webinars and online sessions featuring guest speakers and industry experts covering topics like managing mental health through the pandemic, working remotely, leadership, fatigue, supporting injured workers and the impact on premiums.
|
All sessions will be interactive with presenters ready to answer your questions.
|

ACNC Annual Report 2019-20
|
The report was tabled in Parliament last Friday, the report highlighted the commission’s ability to work with governments across the country to respond to disasters and to support charities during a number of crises in 2019-20 including bushfires, drought, floods and COVID-19.

Latest Job Vacancy data
|
The latest findings from the National Skills Commission’s Vacancy Report show that job advertisements increased by 8700 or 6.4% nationally in September 2020. This represents a continuation of the month on month recovery in employment demand observed since April 2020.
Encouragingly, all states and territories recorded gains in recruitment activity during September 2020, with current job advertisement levels up by 16.3% for Western Australia, 12.7% for South Australia, and 16.4% for the Northern Territory.
