Now into its 6th month, the Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program has received over 600 registrations from apprentices and trainees who have been affected by the current economic crisis. Almost 70 participants have now successfully re-commenced their apprenticeship or traineeship.

  • Building and Construction
  • Electrical, Electronics and Utilities
  • Automotive and Boating
Top 3 Occupations
  • Electrical Trades
  • Plumbing and Roofing
  • Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinetmaking
First year apprentices make up over 45 percent of those seeking assistance and while regional Victoria has been affected slightly, the vast majority of participants are located in the Metro Melbourne area.

We have also seen employer confidence in the economy boost with more job vacancies being listed on last month. The register has had almost 1230 job vacancies listed.

The program aims to assist apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment complete their training.
For Individuals

Apprentices and trainees who have lost their employment are encouraged to register.

Once on the register, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) or directly with an employer whilst also directing you to the most appropriate advice and assistance while you remain out of employment.
For Employers

Employers who have job vacancies for apprentices or trainees can submit them on the vacancy register.

Our program officers will match your vacancy with suitable candidates for you to interview.

Employers may also be eligible for Australian Government incentives.

For further information or to register for the program please visit Apprenticeship Employment Network.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): Reopening Safely

The Victorian Government announced that from Tuesday 27 October 2020 some restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria are easing.

GTO providers and hosts can use these helpful resources from government to meet their obligations and keep their colleagues and communities safe.

NAIDOC Week 2020 8-15 November

NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

Find out more about the origins and history of NAIDOC Week.

Each year, there is a different focus city for the National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony.

The focus city, National NAIDOC Poster Competition and the NAIDOC Awards recipients are selected by the National NAIDOC Committee.

Local community celebrations during NAIDOC Week are encouraged and often organised by communities, government agencies, local councils, schools and workplaces.

National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November.

The November dates follow the decision by the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) to postpone NAIDOC Week from the original July dates due to the impacts and uncertainty from the escalating Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across our communities and cities.

The postponement was aimed at protecting elders and those in our communities with chronic health issues from the disastrous impacts of COVID19.

To access a list of local events please visit the NAIDOC Week Event Calendar

Orygen Apprentice Mental Health Survey

Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health are developing a report on the mental health of apprentices and are conducting a survey to hear the thoughts of Australian apprentices on their experiences with mental health during their apprenticeship.

Orygen is the leading research, training and clinical service provider in Australia focused on the mental health of young people.

The results of this survey will help to promote mental health supports which are optimised to meet the needs of apprentices.

We encourage all apprentices to take the survey that should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Responses are anonymous and will go a long way in helping to develop quality and tailored mental health services for apprentices.

The survey will be open until Monday 2 November 2020.

New State-Wide Youth Strategy - Consultation is Open

The Victorian Government is developing a new state-wide youth strategy to make our state the best place to be for young people.

They are committed to creating a Victoria where all young people are healthy and safe, and empowered to contribute to the issues that affect them. They want every single young person to have equitable access to opportunities and support to participate fully in the social, economic and civic life of our state.

A new youth strategy for Victoria will give young people, organisations and the broader community opportunities to direct Government’s work in the youth space now and into the future.

The Victorian Government want to engage with young people and communities right across Victoria to build a strategy that will create real, meaningful change.

Think broadly about what matters most to you and to all young Victorians. Your feedback will play an important and influential role in the development of the strategy.
