|
Victoria moved into COVID restrictions from 11:59pm Thursday 27 May. These settings will remain in place for metropolitan Melbourne for at least another week.

Restrictions have eased in Regional Victoria as at 11.59pm on Thursday 3 June.

Victorian Apprenticeship Recovery Program Reaches 300 New Apprentices/Trainees Milestone
|
|
This week saw the AEN network reach the 300 milestone for new commencements within the Victorian Apprenticeship Recovery Program in 2021.
|
This program is specifically designed to support Victorian government agencies take on disadvantaged jobseekers through apprenticeships/traineeships via a GTO.
|
To date, program achievements include:
|
- 32% male, 67% female participation
- 8% of participants identify as indigenous.
- 6% of participants identify having a disability
- 35% of participants in metropolitan Melbourne and 65% in regional Victoria
- Apprentices/trainees come from 21 different cultural backgrounds.
- The 300+ apprentices/trainees cover 41 different qualifications.
- The program has support over 200 different Victorian government agencies.

AEN Mid-Year Conference: Plan B - Online Virtual Conference Series
|
Due to the recent Victorian COVID outbreak and metropolitan Melbourne travel restrictions, the AEN has decided to change the upcoming conference to a series of 1-hour online virtual events that will be spread over the week of 21-25 June.
|
People that have already registered will be refunded the full amount through our online booking system over the coming week. As soon as AEN can confirm the new times and dates for all speakers, the new online conference details will be circulated.
|

All AEN members will be sent email invitations for all online presentations.

Reconciliation Week: 27 May - 3 June
|
|
|
|
Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
|
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
|
2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program
|
|
|
|
|
This program has now supported over 780 participants since May 2020, and almost 300 apprentices and trainees have commenced with a new employer.
|
|
Currently, there are almost 90 participants on our active caseload.
|
|
|
|

|
Apprentices and trainees who have lost employment are encouraged to register.
|
Once on the register, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO), or directly with an employer, whilst also directing you to the most appropriate advice and assistance while you remain out of employment.
|
|
|
|

Victorian Training Awards - Nominations Extended to 18 June
|
|
|
Due to a high number of nominations still in progress and noting that the recent lockdown in Victoria may have impacted your work, the 2021 Victorian Training Awards nominations period has been extended for a further two weeks and will close on Friday 18 June 2021.
|
|
If you have started an application, but weren't able to complete it, this extra time will allow you to collect all of the relevant information required to make your application stand out.
|
|
|
|
If you haven't started a nomination, there's still time for you as well!
|
Head over to the VTA website to review the award categories and submit a nomination as soon as possible.
There will be no further extension after this date due to the judging process, so make sure you get your nomination submitted in time!
In 2021, DET is returning to celebrating the best of Victoria's TAFE and training sector in person by hosting a physical gala in Melbourne at the end of August.
If you have any questions about nominating, don't hesitate to send DET an email and they will be more than happy to assist.

Webinar: How Digital Skills Relate to Australian Apprenticeships

|
Digital skills are a vital and growing area of interest within the Australian skills landscape.
|
|
The majority of workforce roles now require generic digital skills, and there are increasing needs to technical digital skills.
|
|
|

Join the AATIS expert panellists who will discuss:

- The types of digital skills needed in Australia;
- How the Australian VET system can deliver these skills; and
- Initiatives targeting the digital workforce.

Local Jobs Program Update

|
Local Jobs Program – Expansion and Extension
|
As announced in 2021-22 Federal Budget, the Local Jobs Program is being expanded to 51 Employment Regions effective 1 July 2021, and extended out to 30 June 2025. This is an exciting development and illustrates the significant value that the Government places on the program, supporting Australian’s recovery from COVID-19 and getting people back into jobs. The expansion now establishes the Local Jobs Program as a $213.5 million Australian Government initiative and positions the program as a key part of the Government’s strategy to drive down the unemployment rate and as a mechanism to resolve current and emerging workforce issues. Local Recovery Fund Project – The Magpie Next Generation Project
|
Asuria People Services, in partnership with Job Prospects, have been awarded the first Local Recovery Fund contact for the Inner Metro Melbourne Region. The project will involve the creation of development pathways for 100 participants leading to job placements for at least 60 participants with ongoing support after commencing employment. The Magpie Next Generation Project draws on the Collingwood Football Club and a range of additional partners, leveraging established stakeholder networks to engage employers and connect participants with job opportunities. Delivery components include pre-employment foundation skills training, facilitated access to work experience placements and industry skills training, with incorporated mentoring and wrap-around supports. We will continue to bring you updates on the project as it rolls out across the region.

Free webinar for Job Seekers – Getting Employed in 2021
|
The William Angliss Skills and Jobs Centre is hosting an online workshop on 4 June 2021 for job seekers. The workshop will provide participants with updated information on current job growth areas in Victoria, skills to find jobs in growth areas using job search platforms, as well as how to prepare a strong resume and cover letter. The event will be held online and is free for all job seekers Angliss: Getting Employed in 2021.

Go Girls Work Ready Program 2021
|
The Go Girls Work Ready program assists women to become work ready and invites women from diverse backgrounds to participate in a five-month program. The program is a combination of employment skills and positive psychology and is delivered by a team of qualified psychologists and facilitators. The focus on personal development enables the women to overcome obstacles that traditionally get in the way of successfully becoming employed. There are a total of 8 one-day workshops and a 3-day, 2-night life planning retreat. The program commences in July and runs through to November. The program is fully funded so participation is free of charge to women who are enrolled in the program. It is open to women of all backgrounds, all ages, women experiencing difficulty, women who are long-term unemployed, woman who have experienced domestic violence and women from migrant backgrounds. Winter Scarf 21 – Trainee Applications Now Open
|
|
Scarf is now accepting applications for their Winter Scarf '21 program that will run at Stomping Ground Beer Hall, 100 Gipps Street, Collingwood. This is a great opportunity for young people (18 - 28 years) from protection seeking / refugee or migrant backgrounds to gain industry-focused training, mentoring and paid work experience in Melbourne hospitality whilst building their job-readiness through practical, fun and informative workshops. Victorian Youth Week: 26 June - 2 July
|
|
The Victorian Government is backing young Victorians with funding for dozens of events during the Victorian Youth Week.
|
Minister for Youth, Ros Spence, announced funding to support 97 Youth Week events and projects across the state from 26 June to 2 July. Youth Week celebrates the contributions, achievements and diverse experiences of Victorians aged between 12 and 25.

NCVER Update
|
NCVER this week released the following research that may be of interest: An analysis of ‘micro-credentials’ in VET.
New analysis of short-course training in VET, often referred to as ‘micro-credentials’, reveals for the first time the size, extent, and characteristics of this form of training.
|
In 2019, 2.6 million students were enrolled in subjects that do not form part of a nationally recognised course, which the report refers to as ‘subject bundles’, out of a total of 4.2 million students who were enrolled in all VET.
|
|
The analysis clearly indicates that subject bundles are mainly concerned with regulation and skill maintenance, either explicitly or implicitly. This activity can be grouped under the broad headings of workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and authority to operate. This segment is a largely ‘private’ market, with more than 93% of subject bundles funded on a fee-for-service basis.

The Australian Training Awards (the Awards) recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in the vocational education and training sector.
|
The Awards are held annually in November in a different state or territory. The 2021 the Awards will be held in Perth on Thursday, 18 November 2021.
