This week the Federal Department of Employment Skills and Small and Family Business launched a new website.
|
The new School to Work website has a range of resources to help young people decide on the next steps in their studies and future careers.
|
|
The site also has direct links to Myskills, JobOutlook, the new National Careers Institute e-Hub and study assist websites.
|
|
|
|
Future Ready is part of the work being done by the Australian Government's National Careers Institute.

Call for AEN "Skilling Now" Conference Presenters
|
Presenting at the AEN "Skilling Now" Conference provides an opportunity to build your professional network.
|
Delivering a content-rich session individually or as part of a team is a wonderful way to share knowledge, experiences and ideas.
|
The conference program will showcase future directions, best practices, stories of successful collaborations, lessons learned and solutions to VET and apprenticeship/traineeship issues within various conference themes.

The conference aims to provide a mix of government and industry speakers to highlight current initiatives, best practices and future directions within the VET and apprenticeship/traineeship sector.

Changes to AASN Contract Reminder
|
Following the announcement in November last year, several Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers will no longer be operating in this capacity from February 1 2020.
|
If you or your apprentices were signed up by one of these providers, your registration should have been transferred to one of the remaining providers.
|
If you have not been contacted with details of your new provider, you can contact the Australian Apprenticeships Enquiry Hotline on 13 38 73.
|

Novel Coronavirus - Department of Education Notification
|
Novel coronavirus (also called 2019-nCoV) is a new strain of coronavirus affecting humans.
|
The Australian Government Department of Health is working across agencies and with states and territories to implement measures to manage the risk of novel coronavirus.

Victorian ICT Traineeship Program – Building IT Capabilities
|
|
Funded by the Victorian Government, Ai Group is co-ordinating a program to increase traineeships in the ICT industry.
|
The program aims to commence 50 traineeships by 31 December 2020 by:
|
- Working with employers to identify traineeship opportunities;
- Providing pre-employment training for 100 prospective trainees to gain an introduction to the industry and some relevant skills before commencing work; and
- Supporting the employers/hosts and trainees throughout the process (mentor and supervisor training).
|
This opportunity is open to all GTO’s to become involved.
|
|
|
|
The first group of trainees have finished their pre-employment training and the next group commence 3rd February 2020.
|
|

2020 important dates & holidays

Victorian Jobs and Training Needs Reports
|
The Victorian Department of Education provide a range of jobs and training needs reports that summarise the local skills and training needs within each Victorian region.
|
The reports provide information on
|
- each region’s labour market analysis combined with existing government funded training activity
- provide insights on the level of future training needs for specific occupations
- flag courses of specific regional or niche occupation needs.
These reports should be considered in conjunction with the funded course list for 2020. They assist training providers to better align their proposed delivery in 2020.

Victorian Labour Hire Update
|
Compliance and enforcement officers are visiting labour hire providers and hosts.
|
The Authority’s compliance and enforcement officers have started the year by visiting labour hire providers and hosts across Victoria.
|
The officers are educating hosts and providers about their obligations and monitoring compliance with the labour hire licensing scheme.
|
The Authority is also processing information received from the public, providers, hosts, workers and other sources about alleged instances of the exploitation of workers by labour hire providers and hosts.
|
Non-compliance with the Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018 (Vic) will be addressed through the Authority’s compliance monitoring, investigating and enforcement activities.
|
We are working with Victorian, Commonwealth and interstate government agencies to improve the integrity of the labour hire industry.
|

- mistreated labour hire workers
- unlicensed labour hire providers
- hosts using workers supplied by an unlicensed labour hire provider.

Showing hosts that you can provide labour hire services
|
Some providers and hosts have contacted the Authority for ‘proof’ that a business can provide labour hire services.
|

Labour hire providers who submitted an application before 30 October 2019 may continue to provide labour hire services until their application has been assessed.
|
Where a complete application was submitted to the Authority before midnight on 31 December 2019, and there is no evidence of non-compliance, the Authority will not take enforcement action against a provider for providing services without a licence, or a host who enters into an arrangement with that provider. A small number of labour hire providers have used the Labour Hire Authority’s logo on their websites or similar, without approval from the Authority.
|
|
You must not copy or re-publish the Authority’s logo. If you have copied or re-published the Authority’s logo it must be immediately removed.

What to do, once you've signed up
|
The first thing to know is that there is no plastic card issued for a Bunning’s PowerPass member. Your membership is always with you, as the ID card lives on your phone.
|
- After you've filled in the application and it’s been processed you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address, so it’s imperative that we get your email address right.
- After we have verified your email address, you will receive a new email with your CARD NUMBER and a link to download the Bunnings PowerPass App for your phone.
- Load the App, enter your card number and you’re good to go.
