Apprenticeship Vacancy Index
|
|
To start the year off there were 1732 apprenticeship vacancies advertised across Australia. Note that this is not an exhaustive count and these figures can be a lot higher.
|

|
As is the norm for this time of year, there was a healthy increase in advertised vacancies. As usual, the construction and auto servicing sectors are by far the largest employer of apprentices.

Apprenticeship Luncheon - Thursday, 12 March 2020
|
Following the announcement in November last year, several Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) providers are no longer be operating in this capacity since February 1 2020.
|
If you or your apprentices were signed up by one of these providers, your registration should have been transferred to one of the remaining providers.
|
If you have not been contacted with details of your new provider, you can contact the Australian Apprenticeships Enquiry Hotline on 13 38 73.

Changes to Federal Department
|
In December 2019, the Prime Minister announced changes to the structure of the Australian Public Service.
|
|
The creation of the Department of Education, Skills and Employment will consolidate several previous departments. This new Department comes into effect on February 1 2020.

Employment Projections 2019 - 2024
|
Each year, the Department of Education, Skills and Employment produces employment projections by industry, occupation, skill level and region for the following five-year period.
|
These employment projections are designed to provide a guide to the future direction of the labour market.
|
The 2019 employment projections are based on the forecasted and projected total employment growth rates published in the 2019-20 Budget, the Labour Force Survey (LFS) data (June 2019) for total employment, and the quarterly detailed LFS data (May 2019) for industry employment data.
|

Victorian Trade Papers
|
A trade paper is a certificate that commemorates the completion of an apprenticeship.
|
A reminder that you can apply for a free trade paper if you have completed both:
|
- a recognised apprenticeship in Victoria, which you started after 1 January 1995
- the apprenticeship's relevant qualification with a TAFE, trade school or registered training organisation.
When you apply, you'll need to provide your qualification title and code. Your TAFE, trade school or registered training organisation can provide you with this information.
|

To apply for a trade paper, register an account and submit an application in the trade paper portal, which is provided by VETASSESS.
|
|

Opportunities to Travel and Work in Canada for Qualified Electricians and Plumbers
|
|
Global Trade Exchange (GtexPro) in collaboration with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the United Association (UA) would like to engage with qualified electricians and plumbers interested in taking up an exchange opportunity with Canada.
|
The exchange will take place through Gtexpro’s Commonwealth exchange programs and will consist of a 2-year opportunity to live and work in Vancouver, recognition of Australian qualifications, Gap Training and Red Seal journeymen accreditation.
|
The core trading principal of Global Trade Exchange (GteXpro) is ‘trade mobility’. They believe that using your trade to travel not only enriches the individual but the industry as well.

NCVER Update
|
AVETMISS reporting - 2019 annual activity due by 28 February 2020
The collection window for direct reporting of 2019 AVETMISS fee-for-service activity to NCVER closes 5pm (ACT), 28 February 2020.
|
If you are reporting fee-for-service activity via an STA please check with them as their deadlines may be earlier.
|
The NCVER Client Support team can help with validation or submission difficulties within the AVETMISS Validation Software (AVS), however, please allow enough time to raise any issues so that you are able to meet the reporting deadline.
|
AUSkey is changing – Make the move to the new credential now!
AUSkey is being decommissioned on 31 March 2020 and has been replaced by a new whole of government digital identity service.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will no longer be able to use their AUSkeys to access the USI Registry after the decommission date, therefore we recommend that you transition now.
All RTOs accessing the USI Registry must complete the transition steps and move to the new authentication method.

Organisation Portal users need to acquire their own digital identity. Principle authorities of an RTO’s ABN must acquire a digital identity (myGovID) and can authorise another person with a digital identity to connect to the USI Registry Organisation Portal (on behalf of the RTO) through RAM. This is similar to how a Standard/Personal AUSkey is set up, however, new mechanisms are used and the replacement file is not stored on a computer or USB. A connection can then be made using any device, anywhere, anytime.
Student Management System users will need a new Machine-to-Machine (M2M) credential to replace a Device AUSkey in order to interact with the USI Registry.
|
Make sure you have updated and cleaned-up your information in the Australian Business Register (ABR), AUSkey Manager and Access Manager.
|
Set up your digital identity, it’s easy, just download and install the app from the Apple App or Google Play stores and set up your myGovID.
|

- RAM option 3
- Technical issues option 4.
Importantly, if your organisation is utilising an SMS, you must also update to USI Web Service Version 3.0 by 31 March 2020.

What to do, once you've signed up
|
The first thing to know is that there is no plastic card issued for a Bunning’s PowerPass member. Your membership is always with you, as the ID card lives on your phone.
|
- After you've filled in the application and it’s been processed you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address, so it’s imperative that we get your email address right.
- After we have verified your email address, you will receive a new email with your CARD NUMBER and a link to download the Bunnings PowerPass App for your phone.
- Load the App, enter your card number and you’re good to go.
