Jobs and Skills Summit

On Thursday and Friday, 1-2 September, the Prime Minister, Treasurer and other Ministers participated in the Jobs and Skills Summit at Parliament House in Canberra.
Jobs & Skills Summit
The invitation-only summit had representative from unions, employers, civil society and governments to find common ground to address Australia's biggest economic challenges.

An agenda and issues paper to get participants and the community thinking and building a common understanding about the summit's key themes ahead of the event:
  • maintaining full employment and growing productivity
  • boosting job security and wages
  • lifting participation and reducing barriers to employment
  • delivering a high‑quality labour force through skills, training and migration
  • maximising opportunities in the industries of the future.
The summit is the first stage of a broader process. Its outcomes and ideas will inform an Employment White Paper and further community engagement, helping to shape Australia's labour market to deliver good outcomes for all.

Changes to COVID-19 Isolation Requirements

Earlier this week there were changes made to the COVID isolation requirements.

From 9 September, the isolation period for COVID-19 positive cases will be reduced from seven to five days following a positive test.

Seven days will still apply for workers in high-risk setting including aged care, disability care, and those providing care in the home.

Others can leave isolation after five days only if they are asymptomatic. National Cabinet also agreed to remove the mandatory wearing of masks on domestic flights.

No decision was made regarding masks on public transport, which will still be required as per individual State and Territory Government directions.

GAN Conference - Postponed

2023 GAN Future of Apprenticeships Header v2
The change comes as a result of increasing COVID cases in Melbourne with Employers and government officials being encouraged to work remotely. There was a concern that international speakers, government officials and delegates would be sitting in a conference room potentially with local participants having to video conference into the event.

The event has been designed to be as interactive as possible with a combination of guest speakers, government workshops and site visits/ study tours so our preference is for that interaction and networking to happen to ensure strong relationships are formed going forward.

This decision hasn’t been taken lightly and we appreciate the support of everyone involved to date.

Rescheduled Date: Sunday 5th February to Friday 10th February 2023
Melbourne: 5th February to 8th February 2023 (inc. travel to Aukland, NZ on 8th February)
Auckland: 9th February to 10th February 2023

Conference registration will begin soon.
