Women in Trades - MIP Support Project
|
|
Participants engage with 3-4 different industries (painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical) to research and experience first-hand what it really takes to be successful in that industry.
|
The Project has supported 9 programs via our members AGA, Kestrel, CVGT and VGT - AEN are thrilled that we have assisted over 100 participants with training opportunities since February 2022.
|
Not only has the project supported initial training – we are pleased that several of the participants have secured Apprenticeships in the electrical, flooring, and automotive trades.
|
With increasing demand for skilled workers, women are encouraged to pursue different trade careers which have traditionally been dominated by men.
|
|
It is anticipated that better informed career choices will lead to improved commencement and retention rates for women in trade apprenticeships.
|

|
Supporting Flooded Victorian Businesses Return to Trade
|
The Australian and Victorian Governments have announced an $877 million Recovery Support package, supporting businesses, farmers, and not-for-profits to rebuild and return to trade as quickly as possible, following the recent devastating floods.
|
Grants of up to $50,000 are available to eligible businesses and not-for-profit organisations to support recovery efforts including rebuilding damaged infrastructure and replacing damaged assets.
|
To help businesses navigate through the recovery period, more than $22 million has been made available for support services to facilitate the development of recovery plans, provide mental health support and assist in grant applications.
|
in addition, Business Chamber and Trader Groups Programs will be established to enable locally led solutions for business activation.
|
Recovery grants of up to $200,000 will also be available for medium and large businesses directly impacted by the floods.
|
To assist primary producers and rural landholders, grants of up to $75,000 will be available as part of a recovery support package – complementing the existing Primary Producer Concessional Loan Program, announced last week.
|
The Primary Producer Recovery Support package will accelerate agricultural recovery and ensure rural and regional Victorians have access to expert advice and support.
|
Sporting and recreational clubs that have been impacted by the floods will also be eligible for a $5000 to assist them with their recovery.
|
|
Any grant received through the existing $5,000 Small Business Immediate Flood Relief and $10,000 Primary Producer Flood Relief programs will be included in the maximum amounts available through the recovery grants.
|

National Training Awards
|
The Australian Training Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements in the vocational education and training sector.
|
The Australian Training Awards commenced in 1994. Over this time many individuals, businesses, and registered training organisations have been rewarded for showcasing best practice in VET.
|
The Awards are held annually in November in a different state or territory. The 2022 Awards will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, on Friday 18 November 2022.
|

Director ID – Deadline Date Fast Approaching
|
Any directors appointed under the Corporations Act 2001 may face serious penalties if they do not obtain a director ID by 30 November 2022 – this includes directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation.
|
It’s important that any Nominated Officers and Relevant Persons associated with a labour hire licence, Not for Profit or registered business meet their legal obligations.
|
|
How to apply for a director ID
|
- You will need a MygovID, with at least standard identity strength, to apply for your director ID – the Australian Taxation Office has more information on their website.
- Gather documents with personal information that the ATO has about you.
- Lodge your application online for a director ID using your MygovID.
Once you receive your director ID, you must pass it on to the company’s responsible record-holder. You must also pass it onto to the record-holder of subsequent companies you direct in the future.

What are the penalties for not having a director ID?
|
|
In 2022 ABRS announced four new offences for not having a Director ID under the Act.
|
|
Penalties can range up to $1,100,000 if existing directors do not have a director ID in place by 30 November 2022.
|
|
|

NCVER Update
|
The latest NCVER report shows Australian, and state and territory governments spent $10.4 billion on vocational education and training (VET) in 2021, an increase of $2.9 billion or 38.6% compared to 2020.
|
The largest increase in expenditure was on employer assistance to engage in VET, which totalled to $3.7 billion in 2021, up 155.7% compared to 2020.
|
Direct VET delivery funding increased by $372.6 million or 7.4% from 2020.
|
|
The other expenditures that had increases in 2021 were capital investment (up by $145.8 million or 45.1%) and system administration and governance (up by $117.4 million or 20.3%).
|
|

Global Careers Month
|
The first Global Careers Month, an initiative of the Inter-Agency Working Group on Career Guidance (IAG WGCG), will be launched next Monday.
|
The campaign which runs from 8 November to 13 December 2022, is aimed at raising awareness of the important role of career guidance in the current disruptive environment.

Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program
|
|
|
Since the program commenced in May 2020, a total of 920 participants have been supported to date.
|
|
|
|
|
Apprentices and trainees who have lost employment are encouraged to register.
|
Once registered, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO), or directly with an employer.
|
|
