Director ID – Deadline Next Week
|
The Australian Business Registry Services announced earlier this week that while technically the deadline would remain 30 November.
|
It would not penalise anyone who applied for their director ID by 14 December. In effect, the announcement makes the new deadline 14 December.
A Director ID is a unique 15-digit numerical identifier that will be assigned to directors as proof of their identity based on a one-time application.
|
Directors will keep their director ID forever, regardless of whether they change directorships, change names or move overseas.
|
|
What are the penalties for not having a director ID?
|
In 2022 ABRS announced four new offences for not having a Director ID under the Act.
|
|
Penalties can range up to $1,100,000 if existing directors do not have a director ID in place by 14 December 2022.
|
|

Victorian Government Announce New Ministry
|
On Monday the Victorian Government announced their new Ministry.
|
Leading the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, Ben Carroll will continue to serve as Minister for Industry and Innovation and add the portfolios of Manufacturing Sovereignty and Employment, as well as retaining the Public Transport portfolio.
|
Gayle Tierney will continue as Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education.Which will move into the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions – and retain her role as Minister for Agriculture.
|
Natalie Hutchins will retain the portfolios of Education and Women and continue leading the Department of Education.
|
Harriet Shing will remain Minister for Water, Minister for Regional Development and Minister for Equality, adding the Commonwealth Games Legacy portfolio.
|
|
AEN Look forward to working with the Victorian Government.

Professor Peter Dawkins AO Announced as Interim Director of Jobs and Skills Australia
|
JSA was established by the Australian Government as a statutory body to provide independent advice on current, emerging, and future workforce, skills, and training needs.
Peter brings a wealth of experience to the position.
|
He is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Mitchell Institute for Education and Health Policy at Victoria University, where he was the Vice-Chancellor and President from 2011 until 2020.
|
For six years (2005-2010), he was a senior public servant in Victoria, as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Treasury and Finance, and Secretary of the Education Department.
|
Before that he was the Ronald Henderson Professor of Applied Economic and Social Research, and Director of the Melbourne Institute at the University of Melbourne from 1996 to 2005.
Peter holds a B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. from Loughborough University and a M.Sc. (Econ) from the University of London and has held various university teaching, research and leadership roles at Loughborough University (1976-84).

Flinders University (1984-87), Murdoch University (1987-1990), Curtin University (1990-1995) where he was Curtin’s first Professor of Economics, the University of Melbourne (1996-2005)
|
and Victoria University (since 2011).

VRQA Strategic Plan For the Next 3 Years
|
The VRQA Strategic Plan 2022–25 defines their contribution to Victoria’s education and training sector as a modern, trusted and networked regulator.
|
The VRQA Board developed the plan to provide the focus for achieving our strategic outcomes for the next 3 years.
|
It describes how we will effectively implement government directions.
|
It also outlines how we will ensure our duty holders; co-regulators and the public understand our regulatory framework.
|
In the next 3 years, our strategic priorities include:
|
- implementing government directions on time and to a high quality.
- strengthening our regulatory approach by delivering clear education and support to drive compliance.
- building greater clarity and visibility about our role and function as a regulator and co-regulator.
- improving our business processes, including building on our analytics capabilities.
- developing and supporting our people.
- managing finances sustainably to meet our regulatory functions and activities.

New Child Safe Standards Commence 1 January 2023
|
|
New laws start on 1 January 2023.
|
The new laws include stronger penalties for organisations that do not comply with the Child Safe Standards and provide the Commission with more powers to assess and enforce compliance with the Standards.
The new laws also change which regulators have a role enforcing the Standards and the sectors they regulate.
|
This means that some organisations will have a new regulator in January.
|
In some cases, an organisation providing multiple types of services to children and young people might have more than one regulator working together to promote compliance with the Standards.
|
|

|
|
The NCVER annual report details important company information, activities, and achievements from the past finical year.
|
|
|
|
|
|
National Youth Commission – Report
|
|
This week the national youth commission released a new report Delivering on Potential apprenticeships & traineeships.
|
|
|
|
3 key issues identified were:
|
- Low Completion Rates.
- Quality or ‘Value’ of the training received.
- Attraction, Recruitment, and selection of Apprentices and Trainees.
|
|
|
Key recommendations include.
|
- Raising the profile and reputation of apprenticeship and traineeship pathways.
- Improving access to apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Improving the quality of apprentice and trainee recruitment.
- Improving completion and retention of apprenticeships and traineeships.
- Ensuring the training process is relevant, current, and flexible.
- Enhancing incentives for employers.

AEN Christmas – New Year Office Closure Period
|
|
The AEN Office will close for Christmas on Friday 23rd December and re-open on Monday 9th January 2023.
|
Our last edition of the e - newsletter will be Friday 16 December and the first edition in 2023 will be Friday the 20 January 2023.
|

Retrenched Apprentices and Trainees Program
|
|
|
Since the program commenced in May 2020, a total of 920 participants have been supported to date.
|
|
|
|
|
Apprentices and trainees who have lost employment are encouraged to register.
|
Once registered, apprentices and trainees will be assisted by one of our program officers until placed with a host employer through a Group Training Organisation (GTO), or directly with an employer.
|
|
