Workforce Australia: Transforming how the Australian Government Delivers Employment Services

Workforce Australia centres on helping Australians to find and keep a job, change jobs or create their own job, connecting employers with job seekers, and a refreshed network of providers to deliver tailored case management.
Workforce Australia
The new employment service will launch on 1 July 2022. It will be called Workforce Australia and replaces jobactive. It will grow to become a single front door for all government employment and skills programs and initiatives.
Workforce Australia is also the new brand representing all employment and skills services.

Consolidating existing employment and skills brands under the Workforce Australia banner will help to identify all the services the Australia Government is providing to foster a productive and competitive workforce.

You may start seeing the Workforce Australia brand from this point forward as the Australian Government rolls out the brand for existing employment and skills programs in the next 18 months.

New Laws to Improve Workplace Safety

New laws to strengthen WorkSafe's ability to prevent and respond to workplace safety concerns and improve outcomes for injured workers and their families are now in force.
Worksafe victoria
The Workplace Safety Legislation and Other Matters Amendment Act 2022 includes changes relating to the issuing of prohibition notices in workplaces and a broadened range of notifiable incidents.
WorkSafe inspectors can now issue a prohibition notice or give a direction relating to non-immediate yet serious health and safety risks and prohibit an activity until satisfied the risks have been remedied and the workplace made safe.

Employers should be aware that under this new threshold, it's likely that some activities for which an inspector may have issued an improvement notice in the past may now become subject to a prohibition notice.

The new laws also change the threshold for incident notifications, meaning employers are now required to notify WorkSafe of incidents that don't result in an injury but do expose a person to a serious health and safety risk.

The changes also allow for certain serious illnesses and large-scale infectious diseases to be prescribed as incidents for notification purposes, including activities with a cumulative risk, such as silica exposure, that can lead to lifelong illness.

The failure of, or damage to, certain items of plant will also become a notifiable incident when a person is exposed to an immediate or imminent serious risk. This may include machinery such as quadbikes and tractors.

For more specific information about how the new requirements will operate and impact duty holders, please visit Workplace Safety Legislation.

Super to Cover More Employees

From 1 July 2022, you will need to pay super to your employees who earn less than $450 per month, provided they meet other eligibility requirements.

This change expands super guarantee eligibility so that employees can receive super regardless of how much they earn.

As we move closer to 1 July 2022, check your payroll and accounting systems have been updated so you can correctly calculate your employees' super guarantee payments. Your digital service provider may be able to assist with further information on how and when they will implement software changes to reflect the new requirements.
