Nominations Open For 2018 Victorian Training Awards
|
|
Victorians are being urged to nominate outstanding apprentices, trainees and vocational education and training teachers for the 2018 Victorian Training Awards.
|
Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney this week officially opened nominations for the awards, which highlight collaboration and innovation in the training sector.
|
Now in their 64th year, the Victorian Training Awards recognise and honour the outstanding achievements of vocational education and training students, teachers and the businesses and training providers who train them.
|
Winners and finalists gain state-wide recognition from the training and TAFE sector, industry experts, peers and the Victorian community. The winners will be announced at the gala awards ceremony in August.
|
The 2018 winners will each receive $5,000 prize money and will represent Victoria at the 2018 Australian Training Awards.
|
Victoria won seven awards at this year’s Australian Training Awards, which were held last week, including Large Training Provider of the Year, International Training Provider of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year.
|

Indigenous School-based Trainees Visit Police Academy and Collingwood Football Club
|
|
|
|
|
|
Eighteen indigenous school-based trainees that are part of an Indigenous School Based Traineeship program were in Melbourne from the 5th to the 7th of December in order to visit various branches of the Victoria Police. The program is designed to support young Indigenous people with an interest in a career within the Victoria Police to gain valuable work experience and training that will assist them in gaining such a career.

The program is a joint initiative between Victoria Police, Skillinvest and Jobs Victoria which will see 60 indigenous students undertaking a Certificate III in either Business or Business Administration while working in a Police Station and completing their VCE or equivalent.
|
The 18 Trainees undertaking this visit are coming from all across Victoria, including Bairnsdale, Bendigo, Echuca, Geelong, Horsham, Mildura, Moe, Morwell, Portland and Sale as well as from all around Melbourne.
|
During their visit, the Trainees will visit the Academy, Search & Rescue, Water Police, Dog Squad and Mounted branches of the Police. A highlight of the visit will be a tour of the Collingwood Football Club’s Holden Centre, followed by a dinner at the Glasshouse. This dinner will be attended by representatives from Skillinvest, Victoria Police, Jobs Victoria and the Apprenticeship Employment Network (AEN) in support of the Trainees.

Office Closure Over Christmas
|
|
The AEN office will be closing over the Christmas and new year period. Our last day will be Friday 22 December 2017 and the office will re-open on Monday 8 January 2018.
|
Our last newsletter for the year will go out on Friday 15th December 2017 and will resume again on Friday 19th January 2018.

Melbourne Career Expo 20-22 July 2018 - Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre

|
The Melbourne Career Expo is the most comprehensive career event in Australia.
The event showcases career opportunities from large employers, trades and higher education in an exciting, interactive and informative format. All sectors and industries are covered, with the latest career trends and opportunities showcased and ready to be explored.
The event annually attracts over 17,000 attendees consisting of school leavers, graduates, jobseekers, and mature aged career changers, offering exhibitors the opportunity to attract a targeted audience.
Now in its 17th year, the event will be held on Friday 20 July to Sunday 22 July, 2018, at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in Southbank (within the Melbourne CBD).
The expo offers free career advice, inspiring and informative industry panels, employment opportunities, interactive training demonstrations and exhibits, free seminars and a wealth of information and opportunities for further study within the private education sector to universities.

Holmesglen Recognised as a Leader in Education at Australian Training Awards
|
|
|
Holmesglen recently received the ‘International Training Provider of the Year’ accolade and ‘Industry Collaboration Award’ at the 2017 Australian Training Awards.
|
The recognition follows a successful win in the area of industry collaboration at the 2017 Victorian Training Awards.
|
“We are grateful for the recognition of Holmesglen as a leader through these industry awards. Connecting with industry and the community to deliver successful learner outcomes is at the centre of what we do,” said Holmesglen Chief Executive, Mary Faraone.
|
Holmesglen has been at the forefront in international education provision and has delivered both onshore and offshore education for the last 30 years.
|
The Institute delivers over 100 vocational and degree programs to over 4000 international on-campus students on an annual basis and has led numerous international projects in Asia and the Middle East over the last 20 years.
|
Holmesglen’s industry collaboration was also recognised with Futuretech, a partnership with the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) Victorian branch that sees electrical professionals’ upskilled in a new $3 million training facility at the ETU headquarters in North Melbourne.
|
The Australian Training Awards are hosted annually by the Australian Government to celebrate the significant contributions of educational providers in the national vocational education and training (VET) sector.
