VET Review
|
Recently the Federal Government announced that there would be another VET review. The review will focus on how the Australian Government’s investment in VET could be more effective to provide Australians with the skills they need to be successful throughout their working life. It will also focus on ensuring Australian businesses, including small and family businesses and businesses in rural and regional areas, have the skills they need to support their business growth.

- The review will have regard to VET funding, policy and regulatory settings and how they can be optimised to support both school leavers and workers to maximise the achievement of relevant skills and employment outcomes from the VET sector.
- It will examine skills shortages in VET-related occupations, in particular any tension between VET outcomes and the needs of industries and employers, and what might be done to better align these.
- It will consider expected changes in future work patterns and the impact of new technologies and how the VET sector can prepare Australians for those changes and the opportunities they will bring.
- The review may consider the flexibility of qualification structures, particularly for mid-career workers, and for industries seeking rapid deployment of new skills.
- The review may have regard to community perceptions of the effectiveness of the VET sector and the accessibility and utility of information about VET options and outcomes, both for employers and students, including information linking training options to employment outcomes.
- It may review whether additional support is needed for vulnerable cohorts, including those currently unemployed and at risk of unemployment, or those with low literacy and numeracy skills.
- The review may seek out case studies of best practice in VET, and consider whether specific trials should be undertaken to test innovative approaches likely to deliver better outcomes.
- The review should have regard to the scope and outcomes from any previous or forthcoming reviews, consultation to date, and inputs made by industry and peak groups.

RMIT Celebrate 2018 Trade Apprentices
|
|
|
On Friday 30 November on the rooftop of RMIT’s SAB Building, RMIT University celebrated their most successful Trades apprentices of 2018.
|
|
Students, teachers, families, industry partners, employers and special guests came together to celebrate the achievements of RMIT apprentices in the Electrical, Plumbing, Instrumentation, Carpentry & Refrigeration trades, as well as pre-apprentices. It was a proud moment to celebrate these achievements and the amazing support from peers, families and industry partners.

|
Represented at the award presentation were numerous companies and apprenticeship support network providers with close industry connections to RMIT, including Cool Tools, Metricon, Milwaukee, Master Builders, Tradelink, Oritech, MEGT, Heatcraft, Endress + Hauser, Amrick, Apprenticeship Support Australia, MAS National & Sarina Russo. The event was also attended by special guests from the Department of Education.

Protech, along with many other companies, were successfully represented, with 3 of their apprentices taking home awards in the Plumbing category.
|
Guest speakers included Australian Apprenticeship Ambassador Steven Jeffery and Travelling Tradies founder Adam Valastro. Students had the opportunity to network with industry professionals, with a breathtaking back drop of the city, showcasing the strong relationships between students, industry and the vocational education and training sector.
|

International Labor Organisation – Global Wage Report
|
|
|
Recently the International Labor Organisation released a new report: Global Wage Report 2018/19: What lies behind gender pay gaps.
|
This report examines the evolution of real wages around the world, giving a unique picture of wage trends globally and by region.
|
|
|
|
|
|
AATIS is currently running a survey of their users to understand which aspects of the service are most of value, and what they can do to better meet the users needs.
|
The survey takes 2 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. It will be open until 21 December 2019.
|
The Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service provides information and resources about potential apprenticeship and traineeship career pathways.

As an organisation that receives no government funding, Bully Zero are reliant on the generosity of their supporters to raise vital awareness and funds.

These funds ensure that Bully Zero can deliver their educational programs across all parts of Australia, educating students, parents, teachers, apprentices / trainees, employers and the wider community on how to prevent bullying.

State Government Department Changes
|
The Victorian government recently announced that Victoria’s Department of Economi Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources will split into two new departments.
|
DEDJTR will become the Department of Transport (DOT) and the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR).
|
Simon Phemister, formerly Deputy Secretary, Economic Policy and State Productivity at DPC, will take over as Secretary of the new Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions when the changes occur on 1 January 2019. He will act in that position until that time.
|
Corey Hannett, formerly Coordinator General, Major Transport Infrastructure Program, will act as the head of Transport for Victoria until the new Department of Transport launches. He will then assume the role of acting Secretary while a recruitment process takes place.
|
Gillian Miles will move into the role of Chief, Integration and Transition, “ensuring a strong connection is maintained between the transport and economic development portfolios.”
|
Rebecca Falkingham, formerly Deputy Secretary, Social Policy at DPC, will become Secretary of the renamed Department of Justice and Regulation.
|
Jenny Atta is acting as Secretary at Education with the departure of Gill Callister.
|
|
