Employment Data for January 2020
|
This week the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released the employment data for January 2020.
|
- Employment increased by 20,000 to 12,996,700 people. Full-time employment increased by 14,600 to 8,879,300 people and part-time employment increased by 5,400 to 4,117,300 people.
- Unemployment increased by 600 to 709,600 people.
- Unemployment rate remained steady at 5.2%.
- Participation rate remained steady at 66.0%.
- Monthly hours worked in all jobs increased by 0.9 million hours to 1,785.5 million hours.
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED ESTIMATES

- Employment increased by 13,500 to 12,995,400 people. Full-time employment increased by 46,200 to 8,882,200 people and part-time employment decreased by 32,700 to 4,113,300 people.
- Unemployment increased by 31,000 to 725,900 people.
- Unemployment rate increased by 0.2 pts to 5.3%.
- Participation rate increased by 0.1 pts to 66.1%.
- Monthly hours worked in all jobs decreased by 8.1 million hours to 1,781.8 million hours.
- The monthly trend underemployment rate remained steady at 8.5%. The monthly underutilisation rate remained steady at 13.7%.
- The monthly seasonally adjusted underemployment rate increased by 0.3 pts to 8.6%. The monthly underutilisation rate increased by 0.5 pts to 13.9%.

World Employment and Social Outlook Report: Trends 2020
|
This report provides an overview of global and regional trends in employment, unemployment, labour force participation and productivity, as well as dimensions of job quality such as employment status, informal employment and working poverty. It also examines income and social developments, and provides an indicator of social unrest.
|
According to the new World Employment and Social Outlook: Trends 2020 (WESO) report, almost, half a billion people are working fewer paid hours than they would like or lack adequate access to paid work.
In addition, the WESO shows that unemployment is projected to increase by around 2.5 million in 2020.
The report shows that the mismatch between labour supply and demand extends beyond unemployment into broader labour underutilisation.

In addition to the global number of unemployed (188 million), 165 million people don’t have enough paid work and 120 million have either given up actively searching for work or otherwise lack access to the labour market. In total, more than 470 million people worldwide are affected.
The report also looks at labour market inequalities. Using new data and estimates it shows that, at the global level, income inequality is higher than previously thought, especially in developing countries.

Commencing in 1994, the Australian Training Awards are the peak, national awards for the vocational education and training (VET) sector, recognising individuals, businesses and registered training organisations for their contribution to skilling Australia.

Through showcasing best practice the Awards' Real Stories Real Achievements video series, promote continuous improvement and innovation in the design and delivery of VET which has led to national and international awareness and respect for Australia's VET sector and skilled-based careers.

The Awards are held annually in November in a different state or territory. The 2020 Australian Training Awards will be held in Melbourne.

What to do, once you've signed up

The first thing to know is that there is no plastic card issued for a Bunning’s PowerPass member. Your membership is always with you, as the ID card lives on your phone.

- After you've filled in the application and it’s been processed you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address, so it’s imperative that we get your email address right.
- After we have verified your email address, you will receive a new email with your CARD NUMBER and a link to download the Bunnings PowerPass App for your phone.
