Investing in Job Ready Local Talent for Key Industries

The Victorian Labor Government is helping TAFEs and universities work with industry to ensure the training students get will mean they’re job-ready for the future.

Minister for Jobs and Industry Natalie Hutchins this week announced the $10 million Skills Solutions Partnerships Program to support Victorian businesses in key sectors at the 2023 Victorian Manufacturing Showcase.

As part of the program, government, industry, TAFEs and universities will co-design and pilot new training courses in manufacturing, digital, construction, clean economy, healthcare and social services – equipping critical industries with the talent they need to grow and succeed.

The Victorian Government is also investing $63.8 million in the Digital Jobs and $4.5 million Digital Jobs for Manufacturing programs, which are training Victorians to fill digital skills shortages.

The program also builds on our plan to grow skilled jobs and cement Victoria as Australia’s manufacturing engine room through initiatives like the $20 million Manufacturing and Industry Sovereignty Fund, the Made in Victoria – Manufacturing Growth Program and the Energy Technologies Manufacturing Program.

The 2023 Victorian Manufacturing Showcase at Moonee Ponds has attracted a record number of exhibitors and attendees – with more than 80 businesses on show and over 1,000 people through the doors.

    VET Student Outcomes 2018-19 Report

Everyone has an interest in knowing how the vocational education and training (VET) system is contributing to economic, employment and social outcomes in Australia.

For students, there’s a substantial commitment of time and resources when you take on study.

Meanwhile, industries across the country are reliant on the VET system to provide a flow of qualified skilled workers, and Australian Governments contribute around $4.5 billion each year supporting the system.

The new report, released on 16 November 2023, tracks VET student outcomes for the top 100 courses (by completion).

This innovative approach to uncovering this data is the result of a collaborative project between Jobs and Skills Australia, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER).

This new data set (titled the VET National Data Asset or VNDA) will assist Jobs and Skills Australia to provide advice on the performance of the Australian VET system, unlocking new insights and analysis possibilities.

Excitingly, VNDA will provide a consistent evidence base to measure sector outcomes, now and into the future.

It draws from a detailed analysis of the employment, economic, social, and further study outcomes for VET students’ who completed a qualification in the 2018-19 financial year.

To find out more about this innovative new report, including key findings, and gain access to the associated data sets please visit, Jobs & Skills Australia.
