Mick Donehue has been the National Services Manager with ADES for more than 7 years. Mick is not afraid to talk about the big issues that face our society today when it comes to alcohol, drugs and mental health. Throughout his life Mick has battled depression and alcohol abuse. Mick has also had loved ones affected by mental illness and substance addiction which has fueled his passion to bring these issues into the community for discussion.
Mick has vast experience as a mental health advocate with several organisations. Mick’s key messages are all about normalising a difficult conversation, surrounding yourself with the right people and finding your key coping mechanisms to stay on top of life.
Mick has spoken to audiences across Australia and New Zealand, has been a guest at mental health and suicide prevention forums, and discussed his story at length on various videos and podcast episodes.
In his spare time Mick runs a mental health clothing label called Journey Apparel, which aims to create conversation. Furthermore, Mick is a drummer which has seen him support international artists and perform to crowds across Australia. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends, his dog and training to stay on top of his mental health. Mick’s story is proof that if you set goals and put the right steps in place you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
