  • Corey Mckernan

    Corey Mckernan

    Corey
Mckernan played at the highest level for over 12 years in a career which
included two AFL Premierships in 1996 and 1999 with North Melbourne, a Best and
Fairest and the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
    He
understands highs and lows of sports having seen both ends during his career.

    Post
football saw him do tours to the biggest events on the planet and met the
biggest names in sports, business and entertainment.
    The
US Masters Tours, Super and the biggest NFL games were just some of the tours
that he brought peoples dreams come through.
Also, around the same time he finished playing football he bought a pub and built it
from the ground up, making The Leveson in North Melbourne one of the best
    multi-purpose venues in Melbourne.

    These
days, Corey is the founder of his Not For Profit, Walk With Me. An organisation
that aims to give back to the community through training workshops and ongoing
support programs led by elite athletes.
    Walk
with me started at the height of Australia’s Covid-19 lockdown in May 2020.
After reading an article detailing concerns about people’s mental health with restricted
living, Corey wondered how he could help. He came up with the idea to deliver a
group walk over Zoom. Anyone could join and be connected to a supportive
    walking group.

    Since
then, the organisation has grown to embody their new vision of: Elite athletes
supporting mental health. Through their live community training session, and
their Australia wide events, Walk With Me is delivering on their promise of
supplying the community with tools for great mental health.

Mick has also had loved ones affected by mental illness and substance addiction which has fueled his passion to bring these issues into the community for discussion.

Mick has vast experience as a mental health advocate with several organisations. Mick’s key messages are all about normalising a difficult conversation, surrounding yourself with the right people and finding your key coping mechanisms to stay on top of life.

Mick has spoken to audiences across Australia and New Zealand, has been a guest at mental health and suicide prevention forums, and discussed his story at length on various videos and podcast episodes.
