Starting your Apprenticeship

Your employer is thrilled to have you join their team and embark on your journey of learning and growth together. As an apprentice, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the company in meaningful ways.

As you start your apprenticeship, it’s important to set yourself up for success in the first 50 days. Here are some things that we recommend you check during this time:

  1. Make sure you have all the correct safety and personal protective equipment to work on site – inexperienced workers are more likely to not speak up and could be injured if not aware of all the hazards – so double check with your supervisor if you are not comfortable about something.
  2. Build relationships: Connect with your colleagues, get to know their roles and responsibilities, and offer your help where possible.
  3. Set goals: Work with your workplace supervisor and teachers to set clear, measurable goals for your apprenticeship, and review them regularly to ensure you’re on track.
  4. Learn as much as you can: Take advantage of any training opportunities provided to you and ask questions to your supervisor and colleagues.
  1. Seek feedback: Ask your supervisor and colleagues for regular feedback on your performance and use it to improve.
  2. Confirm your on and off the job training plan, training enrolment, location and key dates. Staying on top of your training requirements will ensure you consistently build your skills and knowledge.
  3. Stay safe – make sure you ask questions and if you are unsure of anything ask your supervisor – remember safety first!.
  4. Make sure you have provided the correct information for your salary, superannuation and any other entitlements.
  1. Take initiative: Look for opportunities to take on new tasks and responsibilities, and show your willingness to learn and grow.
  2. Above everything else enjoy the journey and celebrate your successes over the next  3-4 years of your apprenticeship – its a great way to build your skills and have a great career. Remember, resilience is the key to success. Be prepared to face challenges, stay positive, and keep pushing forward.

Your work colleagues, other apprentices, teachers, supervisors, family and friends are there to support you every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or just need some guidance. By doing this you will become the best version of yourself and achieve your goals.

Congratulations again and make the most out of this journey!
