Dean’s journey began as an apprentice himself, where he quickly recognised the immense value of hands-on experience and technical skills training. His passion for helping young people pursue meaningful career paths through apprenticeships has been unwavering. Throughout his career, Dean has championed the belief that apprenticeships are vital for equipping young people with the skills needed to thrive, especially in smaller regions where opportunities can often be limited.

His work is a testament to the impact that investing in apprenticeships can have on individuals, communities, and entire economies. Over the past decade alone, as the CEO of Westvic Staffing Solutions, Dean has overseen the creation of over 4,000 apprenticeship placements for young people in regional Victoria. These apprenticeships not only provide career opportunities but also help local communities retain talent, strengthen businesses, and foster economic growth. Dean’s commitment to his cause is evident in his actions averaging over 700 kilometres each week to engage with employers, schools, and community leaders, often outside of working hours.

But Dean’s dedication extends beyond regional Victoria. He has taken his advocacy to a national and international stage. Since 2014, Dean has chaired the Apprenticeship Employment Network, leading efforts to shape policies that ensure the strength and continuity of apprenticeship programs. Moreover, his involvement in the Global Apprenticeship Network as the inaugural chair of the Australian network and a board member of GAN Global showcases his commitment to sharing best practices worldwide.

Dean’s leadership has been particularly impactful during times of crisis. From the Global Financial Crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dean has spearheaded initiatives like the Victorian Apprenticeship Recovery Program to support apprentices and our members during tough times. His efforts have provided stability and resilience, ensuring that apprenticeships continue to thrive even in the most challenging circumstances.

In recognition of his contributions, Dean has earned national and international recognition. He has served on government committees, advised on apprenticeship reforms, and been a key voice in shaping policies that support youth employment.

Dean Luciani’s legacy is one of empowerment empowering youth, empowering communities, and empowering businesses to invest in the future. His work has touched countless lives, and his leadership continues to inspire positive change. It is a privilege to recognise and celebrate his lifelong commitment to making things better for others, especially the young people of regional Victoria and the group sector as a whole.
